Parks and Gardens
Munich is a very green and pleasant place: along the Isar river - that flows right through the city - we have pleasant walkways and meadows, there are elegant baroque gardens, and natural looking English landscape parks, and - last but not least - allotmentgardens in abundance.
In addition, in 1983 the International Flower and Garden Exhibition
took place here – and subsequently on that site a beautiful and spacious
park was created, Munich’s Westpark.
The site of the former airport
was chosen for the 2005 German National Garden Show, with ecological
themes that can still be seen and enjoyed when walking through the area.
Much longer ago – in 1972 – the Olympic park was laid out for the
Olympic summer games and to this day it is very popular for all sports
activities from walking to inline skating and a lot of sports in between.
Our English Garden in Munich is said to have been the model for the
Central Park in New York and it is larger than London's Hyde Park. The
American Benjamin Thompson set it up and in 1792 it was opened to the
public ! See for yourself why the English Garden is still Munich’s
favorite green area.
Please note - I can arrange a tour through a private alottment garden - contact me for this private garden tour or for any other tour.
